Khwopa Engineering College organized an orientation program for newly admitted students in ME in Earthquake and MSc in Urban Design & Conservation.
In his speech, Chief Guest Senior Leader Narayan Man Bijukchhen (Rohit), Chairman, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), motivated newly admitted students to study hard, gain specialized knowledge and apply it to serve the country and people alike. Chairman Rohit urged faculties to provide quality education to the students so that they can face the challenges of the 21st century. He emphasized the college administration must ensure a conducive environment for academic enhancement. "Research and innovation should be a key focus in post-graduate education", he stressed.
Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality & Chairman of College Management Committee Sunil Prajapati welcomed newly admitted students to the college, an undertaking of Bhaktapur Municipality. Mayor Prajapati shared with the students the experiences of renovation and reconstruction of the heritage structure damaged and collapsed after the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake. "Faculties, students & alumni of KhEC Post-graduate Departments played a valuable role in reconstruction, research and conservation," he said.
He said, "Bhaktapur Municipality wishes to establish Bhaktapur as center of excellence. It has been running seven higher education institutions along with KhEC and is in the process of establishing 'Khwopa University'. However, the political parties in government are reluctant to pass the 'Khwopa University Bill' through Parliament".
Er. Sujan Maka, Principal, KhEC, Er. Sunil Duwal, Principal, KhCE, and Er. Rabindra Phoju, Vice-Principal, KhEC, welcomed students and extended their best wishes for their stay in the college and their academic ventures. They also assured students of all necessary support to the students.
Er. Manjip Shakya (PhD), Head of Department, Post-Graduate Department of Earthquake Engineering, Ar. Libash Phaiju, Head of Department, Post-Graduate Department of Urban Design & Conservation and Subeg Man Bijukchhen (PhD), Head, Research & Development Unit, oriented students with respective departmental information along with rules & regulations of the college & Purbanchal University.
Thirty-seven students from nine districts of Nepal, who have completed their Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering/Architecture from 12 different colleges in Nepal and abroad have been admitted to two post-graduate programs. Out of 37 students, 19 are female (51.4%) and 18 male are (48.6%).
Two hundred and seventy students have already completed their post-graduate courses in these two departments of the college.
